Maths Mate sheet 8 term 4

Predict- I predict this question will be about problem solving.

Read- Which deal costs less per milliliter. A) 75 c for 500 ml B) $2 for 2 liter

Whats BIG question?- What deal costs less?

Clarify – Nothing to clarify.

Solve- I first have to find out how many millimeters are in a meter. There are 1000. Then I then times 75 c by 2 because there is 500 ml for 75 c. 75 x 2 equals 150.

Summary- So the answer is B costs less. This is true because $2.00 for 2 liters is deal B. But deal A is $3.00 for 2 liters.

Maths Mate sheet 7 question 24

Predict- I predict this question will be about problem solving

Read-the question says:Fill in the missing digits in the multiplication sum.1_4 x 8 =_9_

Clarify- Nothing to clarify

Whats the BIG  question?- Fill in the missing digits in the multiplication sum.

Solve- First I will work out what I know- 8 x 9 = 72 now I need to work out the rest.

Summary- The answer is 124 x 8 = 992

Maths Mate sheet 6 question 22

Predict- I predict this question will  be about problem solving.

Read- The question says : Which deal costs less per metre A-$1.50 for 15 m or B-$5 for 45 m.

Whats the BIG question?- The BIG question is Which deal costs less per metre A-$1.50 for 15 m or B-$5 for 45 m.

Clarify- Nothing to clarify

Solve- First found out how much it would be for the $1.50 option if it were 45 metres and it equaled $4.50. Which is only 50 cence less then option B!

Summary- The answer is 50 cence

Maths Mate sheet 5 term 4 question 23

Predict- I predict this problem will be about problem solving

Read- The question says – each flag represents a different digit. Fill in the chipher.

Clarify- Whats a chipher? A chipher is a sum

Whats the BIG question?-  Fill in the missing digit things.

Solve- The first sum has 3+ 1_4 shaded of a square  equals two halves. I know the answer has to be two of the same numbers so it cant be 77 or 44 it has too be something less so I guess 11. Then the next sum is 1_4 of a square shaded x  a differently positioned half =  1 half and a differently positioned 1_4.  So I knew it would have to be 7 x 2 = 14.

Summary- I wrote all the answers at the bottom!

Maths Mate sheet 4 term 4 Question 21

Predict-  I predict this question will be about probability.

Clarify-  Nothing to clarify.

Read- The question says what is the probability that this spinner will land on an odd number.Write it as a fraction.

Whats the BIG question?-count how many odd then turn it into a fraction.

Solve- First I count all the odd numbers that are located on the spinner. There are three even. Then I count odd there are five odd. Then I count how many numbers all together. There are eight. I then turn the odd ones in a fraction by doing this 5 odds 8 parts.

Summary- 5

Maths Mate sheet 3 term 4

Predict- I predict this question will be about problem solving.

Read- The question says :Fill in the magic square (hint:Every row & column adds up to the same sum)

Clarify– How will I know what the sum is? -Well the numbers in a row that is already written says 4 9 14 which add up to 27 so each column or row must add up to 27.

Whats the BIG  question- The big question is fill in the magic square so that every sum adds up to 27.

Solve- Every column and row I put a number sentence that will add up to  27.

Summary- 12               4              11                 they all add up to 27 – YAY!!

8            9                  8

7          14                 6

Maths Mate sheet 2 term 4

Predict- I predict this problem will be about problem solving and using prior knowledge.

Read- Its reads fill in the appropriate numbers of the titles of six famous stories. It also has a hint the numbers will add up to a perfect square.

Then add up the numbers it has

Ali baba and the ?

? Dalmatians

The  ? steps

Around the world in ?days

Snow white and the ? dwarfs

catch ?

Clarify- What is a square a perfect square is when two numbers can be timed by each other to get the number. E.g 20 x 20

Whats the BIG question?- yhe big question is fill in the correct numbers and add them up to get a square.

Solve- I filled in the right numbers and checked with my mum

101 Dalamatians

The  39 steps

Around the world in 80 days

Snow white and the 7 dwarfs

catch 22

I added all the numbers up which got me to 289. Then I made sure it was a perfect square because 17 x 17 is 289!!

Summary- the answer is 289!!

Predict- I predict that this question will include trial and error.

Read- Each bead has a vale according to its color. The values of the first three are given what is the last one.

Clarify- Each color has to have the same number.

Whats the BIG question- What do the last beads add up to?

Solve- I used trial and error by trying all different number combinations in till  one worked.

Summary- The answer is – 22 is the what the last bead adds up to.

Predict- I predict this problem will include trial and error.

Read-Carl looked at the page numbers on the open book in front of him. The left and right page numbers added to 333. What were the page numbers?

Clarify- Nothing to clarify.

Whats the BIG question? What numbers that come after each other add up to 333?

Solve- I am going to use trial and error. I will try all different numbers. First I picked 157+ 158. It was wrong I worked out who how  numbers took to add up to 333. Then I kept going in till I got my answer.

Summary- The two answers were 166 and 167.
